Teaching in Local Schools

In Tanzania, an amazing door is open to teach the Bible in the government schools. On every Wednesday at the end of the school day, every school has a time set aside for "Kipindi cha Dini", which means Religious Period. Sadly, few Tanzanian believers take advantage of this opportunity for the Gospel. I am thankful for the Lord leading Gerald to partner with me in the Gospel work in Ujiji, and also to introduce me to this open door. We have been teaching the Bible in 2 different elementary schools in Ujiji since 2020.

`On Wednesdays each week, we close the maktaba and walk about a quarter mile to our first school. Both elementary schools are within walking distance of each other, and we have worked out the schedule to allow us to go from one school to the other within a two hour period to teach a Bible lesson at each school. At each school there are approximately 60-80 students who are excited when we arrive each week.

Our time begins with prayer, and then a group of students will lead us in a song they have prepared. It is so sweet to hear these children sing songs they have written themselves about the Lord Jesus. We have a Bible lesson from either Gerald or myself, and then we close with review questions and  prayer. The time goes by fast, but the blessings will last forever! This is the busiest day of the week for us, and my favorite!

The students often come by the maktaba to see "The King of Glory" video after school. Some even bring prayer requests to Gerald and I from their parents. I went down to the local soccer field in Ujiji where many youth play soccer in the evenings. After the soccer, I gave my testimony in Swahili. Before I was introduced, the crowd was asked if they knew "Mr. John". Many kids raised their hands and said, "He teaches at my school." I am amazed at how the Lord is using this ministry to open other doors for the Gospel!
