PERSEVERING

We are pressing on in the work out here in western Tanzania. We really miss our two oldest children (Isaac and Elaina) who are in the US, but we are also thankful they are getting this time with family and friends.

We have been busy with school for our younger two, Jenn’s masters course, Emmaus, Gracie (2yr old and all her energy!), Kizenga chapel, Camp Nuru, and other ministries in Ujiji. 😅

This is John ☝🏼, who walked 3 hours one way to meet us for his Emmaus courses every 3 weeks as we came over the last 2 years with the courses down the lake. He completed all 35 courses and received his final certificate/diploma on our last trip last week! He expressed how much these Bible studies helped him as he pastors a small Baptist church.

We are encouraged each trip as we continue to have more students earn certificates of completion, and hear their testimonies of how these courses have helped them in their various ministries.

Gerald and I are planning to get back into the schools this Wednesday with our Bible class. The schools in Tanzania close for the month of June, and reopen in July. We appreciate your prayers as we begin a study in the Gospel of John! I am excited for this opportunity, as these schools are just a few blocks away from Camp Nuru :)

The Kizenga chapel is going well. We have been so encouraged as the 3 who were baptized last month are all working through the Emmaus courses! We have between 40-60 kids each Sunday, and about 10-15 adults for the main meetings.

We also poured a cement slab over a new septic “hole” for our village bathroom 👇🏼. The first hole was covered by logs, which rotted and the hole caved in 😁. Justin Wallace has been a huge help with this and many other projects.

I, John, was asked to speak at Lake Tanganyika Bible College in Kigoma to a group of students this past Sunday evening. It was a joy to sing and study God’s Word together. We studied the feeding of the 5000 in John 6. One thing that stood out was the example given of the disciples returning to Jesus and then going to the multitudes over and over again until everyone was filled. Most of these students are pastors and church leaders, and this was a good reminder of how Jesus still feeds the multitudes today (through his disciples). It was an encouraging evening together!

We are continuing to persevere this dry season (mid-May - October) in the work of building Camp Nuru! We are having gabions (rocks in wire cages) placed along the washed out area as a retaining wall to prevent further erosion.

We are also persevering with work inside the camp walls, such as tree cutting and removal. We are working on removing all of the trees that are in the way of planned buildings or that just need to be cut down.

All of the work is done without chainsaws! We are using machetes and axes only 🤩!

We are hoping to get the retaining wall completed, and possibly the workshop built before the rains come in October. Our hope and prayer is to build and move into the new workshop, tear down the old tin storage building in the middle of the soccer field, and fix up the soccer field for day ministry. Please pray with us over the possibility of this getting done before October.

We have a team coming out in September from Tennessee (Camp Horton Haven). They would definitely appreciate your prayers with all of their preparation and travel. The team will be led by Doug Lindley, and will be out for 3 weeks to help out with the work at Camp Nuru. This was last years team👇🏼 and they were a blast :)

Jennifer just started a new class this July, and is persevering in her masters program in midwifery. Grace is growing, healthy, and full of energy! She is also enjoying her preschool very much 🤩!

That about sums up the last few weeks 😅! We thank you all so much for your prayers and support.

• Please pray for the Emmaus students as they serve the Lord in various ways.

• Please pray for the Bible class in the schools beginning this Wednesday, that the Lord would prepare the hearts of the kids for His Word.

• Please pray for Kizenga chapel for spiritual growth, sound doctrine, and protection.

• Please pray for Camp Nuru and the retaining wall job to be done well and be sufficient to protect our property.

• Pray for John and Jennifer for strength and encouragement (just a bit worn out at times).

• Pray for John’s trip to the US in August to take Isaac to Emmaus and bring Elaina back to TZ (2 week trip!)
